ISLAMIC, 'Abbasid Caliphate. Al-Mu'tadid, AH 279-289 / AD 892-902. Dirham (Bronze, 26 mm, 2.74 g, 3 h), a contemporary imitation of a dirham struck by al-Mu'tadid. Citing al-Mu'tadid billah and the heir apparent al-Muktafi billah by his perspnal name 'Ali ibn Ahmed' (in Kufic). uncertain mint, illegible mint, possibly Makka, AH 283 = AD 896/7. C.f. Album 242 (for prototype). A highly unusual and interesting imitation of good style. Struck slightly off center and with some deposits, otherwise, good fine.

This highly interesting issue cites the heir apparent al-Muktafi by his personal name, 'Ali ibn Ahmed', while omitting all of his other titles.
